Key Pacific is led by a senior team that have a wealth of experience combined with demonstrated skill.

Derek’s background is in investment banking and corporate advice.  Before joining Key Pacific, he worked at Morgan Stanley for 18 years in Sydney, New York and Hong Kong.  At Morgan Stanley, his roles included: Managing Director and Head of Australia M&A; Managing Director and Head of Australia Financial Institutions Group; and Managing Director and Co-Head of Asia Pacific Financial Institutions Group.

Before he joined Morgan Stanley, Derek was a lawyer at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons).

At Key Pacific, Derek’s role is to provide senior support in the origination and execution of transactions for Key Pacific’s clients, with a principal focus on M&A.

Over his career, Derek has had a wide range of transaction experience, including: Singtel acquisition of Optus; ANZ acquisition of National Bank of New Zealand; Channel Seven joint venture with KKR; multiple transactions for Morgan Stanley Real Estate, including acquisition of Investa and acquisition of Grand Hotel Group; multiple transactions for GE Capital, including sale of Australian consumer finance business; HBOS sale of BankWest to CBA; Aviva sale of its Australian insurance business to NAB; CBA sale of its Hong Kong life insurance business to Sunlife; acquisition by Ingram Micro of Tech Pacific; sale by UFJ of leasing business to Bank of Queensland; sale of HPA to Salmat; and Telstra formation of Foxtel joint venture with Newscorp.

Derek’s qualifications include BA (Hons) and LLB (Hons) from University of Sydney, and BCL from Oxford University.  He is a graduate member of the AICD.
